Medical Polo Shirts for Clinics, Dental and Vet Offices: A Practice Manager's Guide to Medical Uniform Suppliers

The front desk is the first uniform every patient sees.

Most medical uniform suppliers sell scrubs first and treat polos as an afterthought. For a clinic, dental or vet office, the better plan is usually both: embroidered medical polo shirts for the front desk, admin and outreach, and scrubs for hands-on clinical roles. Our embroidered polos start at $29.95 with a minimum of 20 pieces per design, and our two scrubs sets start from a single piece.

This guide is for practice managers outfitting a mixed team of medical and nursing staff, receptionists and coordinators. It covers which roles suit a polo, fabric, colour, logo and name placement, sizing and ordering, using the styles in our dental office polo shirts collection and the wider range of healthcare apparel we make.

When Medical Polo Shirts Work Better Than Scrubs

Polos work best for roles patients see that do not involve procedures: reception, practice managers, billing and treatment coordinators, and staff at outreach events. Scrubs stay the better choice for hands-on clinical work.

A patient meets the front desk before anyone else, and healthcare polo shirts with a neat chest logo read welcoming rather than clinical. Physical therapy clinics, optometry and chiropractic offices often put their whole team in polos, because the work is patient-facing and rarely messy. Physical therapy polo shirts also move well on a treatment floor.

Vet offices split the same way: the client care team at reception wears polos, while vet techs who lift, restrain and clean up after animals stay in scrubs with pockets. Nurse polo shirts suit school nurses, home visit teams and health fair tables, where a branded polo stands out in a crowd.

Polo or Scrubs by Role: A Quick Table for Mixed Teams

Give front office and outreach roles a polo, hands-on clinical roles scrubs, and let clinicians who move between both wear either, in the same colour family and with the same logo.

Role Usually wears Why
Reception and front desk Polo First face patients see; desk work
Practice manager, billing, coordinators Polo, long sleeve in cool offices Reads professional with patients and in meetings
Dentist, doctor or vet Polo for consults, scrubs for procedures Same logo either way
Dental hygienist Polo or scrubs, per your dress code Many practices let hygienists choose
Dental assistant, nurse, vet tech Scrubs Pockets, frequent changes, hands-on work
Physical therapist Polo Moves all day, talks with patients all day
Outreach and health fair staff Polo Easy to spot at events and school visits

We make both sides of that table. For medical scrubs, the Essential Embroidered Scrubs Set is $49.95 as a full set, $31.95 for a top or $29.95 for pants, and the FIONX Signature Embroidered Scrubs Set is $59.95, sold as a full set only. Both come in S to 3XL with your logo embroidered on the chest, from one piece.

Clinicians who wear medical lab coats can keep them over a polo. For mostly clinical teams, our custom embroidered scrubs buyer guide covers scrubs in depth.

Fabric for Long Shifts and Frequent Washing

Our custom embroidered polo shirts are CVC pique: 65% combed cotton and 35% polyester in a medium weight knit. The cotton keeps it soft and breathable; the polyester holds colour and shape through repeated washing.

Our solid polo is a 220 gsm pique that holds a logo and a name crisp and flat. The polos have no stretch, so a role that bends and reaches all day is a better fit for scrubs: the Essential set is 65% polyester, 30% cotton and 5% spandex, and FIONX is 66% rayon, 30% nylon and 4% spandex.

For care, wash below 30°C (86°F), avoid bleach and do not iron directly on the embroidery. We make no medical performance claims for any of these fabrics, so follow your practice's own dress policy for procedure rooms.

Colours That Look Clinical and Hide Wear

Navy, charcoal and black hide wear and read professional; white and soft blues look clean and calm but show marks sooner. Our solid polos come in navy, black, charcoal grey, white, cream, forest green, hunter green, burgundy and royal blue, with custom Pantone matching for anything else.

Navy is the most popular medical uniform colour because it suits almost any logo. Pure white, like traditional white nursing scrubs, looks crisp on day one and shows every mark by month three, so keep it for roles that stay at a desk. If your brand uses ceil blue or a teal from the waiting room walls, send the Pantone code and we match it.

A simple system helps patients tell roles apart: front office in one polo colour, clinical staff in scrubs of a matching tone, the same logo thread on everything. Each embroidery design can use up to 4 thread colours at no extra cost.

Logo, Name and Title Placement Patients Can Read

Put the practice logo on the left chest and the person's name and title on the right chest. We embroider an individual name on every shirt at no extra charge, with no character limit.

Position What goes there Polo size limit
Left chest Practice logo Up to 3.5 in (9 cm) wide
Right chest Name and title, such as "Maria, RDH" Up to 3.5 in (9 cm) wide
Sleeve Department, a paw or tooth icon Up to 3.9 in (10 cm) wide
Back of collar Website or a small mark Up to 2.8 in (7 cm) wide

A name on the chest answers the question patients are too polite to ask. Keep it short: "Dr. Patel", "Sam, Client Care" or a first name with a credential. Long names may be set smaller or on two lines so they stay readable, but very small lettering is harder to read once stitched.

On scrubs the logo goes on the left chest by default, with right chest and sleeve as options.

Sizing a Mixed Team: Men's and Women's Cuts

Our embroidered polos come in men's and women's cuts from XS to 3XL, and you can mix cuts and sizes freely inside the 20 piece minimum. Both scrubs sets run S to 3XL.

No single cut gives a perfect fit to a whole team, so collect sizes person by person. Build one spreadsheet with a row per shirt: name, cut, size, role, and the exact name and title to embroider. Ask each person to compare against a polo they already own that fits well; the women's cut is narrower through the body.

Plan two or three uniform polo shirts per full-time person so one is always clean. Prices rise slightly with size, from $29.95 at XS to $41.95 at 3XL on our solid polo. For air-conditioned reception areas, the long sleeve embroidered polo uses the same CVC fabric and is simpler than the fleece jackets medical staff often pull over a short sleeve top.

What to Ask Medical Uniform Suppliers Before You Order

Ask about minimums, price, the mockup, names, lead time and reorders. A quality medical uniform supplier shows you your exact logo on your exact shirt before anything is made.

Question Our answer
Minimum order? 20 embroidered polos per design, sizes mixed; 50 if the collar has two or more separated stripes. Scrubs from 1 piece.
Price? From $29.95 for most styles, fully custom from $34.95; per-piece price drops on larger orders
Setup fees? None, logo digitizing included
Proof? Free digital mockup within 24 hours, unlimited revisions
Delivery? 12 to 18 business days after mockup approval, shipped worldwide
Mistakes? Free remake if an item does not match the approved mockup

Many uniform suppliers resell stock scrubs from a catalogue. Medical uniform manufacturers make the garment itself: our polos are cut, sewn and embroidered in Vietnam by our production team, which is why the embroidered minimum is 20 pieces per design. There is no catalogue to download; you choose a style online and review a mockup of your own logo.

Need fewer than 20? Our custom all over print polo is sublimated from 1 piece at $35.95, in 92% polyester and 8% spandex with a 150, 170 or 230 GSM fabric weight, with names printed into the design. For a design built entirely around your colours, the fully custom embroidered polo starts at $34.95.

Case Study: A Melbourne Dental Practice Moves From Scrubs to Polos

A three-chair dental practice in Melbourne replaced scrubs with 24 embroidered polos for its 9 team members: clinical white, with the clinic's minty-teal logo on the left chest, sized and named for each person.

The principal dentist wanted something softer than a scrub and more polished than a T-shirt, with a logo that felt boutique rather than chain. The order covered dentists, hygienists, dental assistants and the front desk, two polos per person, in women's XS to L and men's M to XL, delivered as named bundles.

Four months later, new patients were writing in reviews that the clinic felt less clinical and more welcoming, and staff felt more like one team. Read the full Melbourne dental practice case study.
